We all need a room that brings peace and harmony to our life. Creating a warm and comfortable place is easy to do; the hardest part might be figuring out where to start first.

The heart of the home and the new living room is the kitchen. Think about – food is synonymous with comfort and where do you get food…the kitchen. Enter the peaceful Amana Green Tea refrigerator with its etched leaf pattern or the calming Midnight Blue refrigerator with its deep blue and silver sparkles – much like a starry night. Place one of them in your kitchen for an instant change in mood.

Like sleeping more than eating? Then start in the bedroom where you recharge every night. Bring in a variety of lush fabrics to create an environment perfect for getting the all-important REM sleep. Soft cotton sheets, chenille blankets or throws, and pillows are a good beginning, but pay attention to your lighting. Do streetlights or traffic keep you up? Layer your window treatments or sew your own blackout curtains. Add some greenery to your bedroom and place a few plants around to purify the air.

What about your media room where you flop after work? Place soft throws and inexpensive oversized pillows around the room to provide options for you to stretch out on the couch or lounge on the floor. Add some low light and candles to give your eyes a break when watching the TV or install a dimmer switch to provide you the ability to darken the room as needed. Sconces and lamps can provide additional lighting options—try to have lighting choices at various heights in the room.
Fabrics build texture into your space and can make you think of home or grandma’s house. A few fabrics to consider placing around your room of choice are flannel, cashmere, velvet or corduroy. Place your favorite fabrics in your usual spots at home to create pockets of comfort no matter where you are.
