Let’s be honest – for as much time as we spend in our homes, a good portion of that time is being spent in the bathroom. Whether primping to meet friends for a night on the town, jumping in for a quick shower, or relaxing in the tub after a long week, the bathroom is one room that deserves your decorating touch.
Looking for a few simple ways to give your bathroom that extra edge? Start with the shower curtain. The shower curtain is one of the biggest focal points of the bathroom, so make sure your curtain is incorporated into your decorating theme. Do you want a simple curtain that matches your tan bathmats and blends into the background? Or are you a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan who just wants to show your pride – in the shower?
When redecorating, lighting shouldn’t be last on the to-do list. In fact, lighting is one of the most affordable changes you can make that can alter the mood of a room. Instead of the typical overhead lighting that can overpower you in the morning, try adding sconces in your bathroom to create soft lighting and you’ll notice an immediate difference.
Don’t forget the sense of smell when decorating your bathroom. Wash your hands with your favorite soap. Whether your favorite scent is cherry blossoms, the Hawaiian tropics or even your own homemade cleanser, you can easily personalize your bathroom depending on the season. If you prefer to stick to unscented soaps, use candles, votives, incense and plug-ins to introduce a new signature bathroom scent.
Finally, our friend Thom Filicia believes that every room needs a surprise. Whether it’s a family photo, an unusual plant like a cactus or even a not-so-typical rubber ducky, incorporate a unique feature into your bathroom and showcase your personality.
