The Style File loves art! We think it’s one of the best ways to express your personal style. But when it comes to original works, well, prices can be off the wall. And the cost of professional framing? You can just forget about groceries next month. Of course, there are those affordable, designy posters you can pick up just about anywhere. Honestly, though, we don’t like the idea of 6,000 other people having the same thing on their walls as we do.

The solution? Hang in there and get creative. For example, we decided to make our own art, by framing 9 playing cards from an old deck. And it looked fabulous!

When you think about it, you can frame just about anything…and spend next to nothing. From a cool patterned sheet of paper or wallpaper, to that giant collection of keys you have on your key chain (keys that haven’t been used since who knows when). Lucky pennies, match boxes, children’s book illustrations, you get the idea. So get your creative juices flowing.

Now that we’ve shared this idea, we want you to share your creations. Send us a photo of your new artwork and tell us what inspired you. We won’t take the credit, but we can’t promise we won’t copy.

I like what you did with the “family” frames - I know that’s a whole lot more attractive than hanging pictures of my family - or at least my brothers.

I tried this and it looks great! I framed old calendar pictures and my family loves it. Thanks Stylista!

I’m always in need of frames. I too enjoy the “family” frames. I will put them to good use to framing the Amana colonies photos my parents took. Silly me, I thought the Amana Colonies was Amanda Colonies. This led to great confusion as a child. I digress and say kudos to you Amana!
